We have a question about buying Office for an offline computer. The Offline Installer should allow you to install Office without an internet connection after the file is downloaded. This page also gives you the option to explicitly select 32 or 64 bit installation. Since the focus of the question is for an “offline computer”, just thought one other piece of information may be very relevant which is not mentioned in all of your questions:.
Was this reply helpful? Yes No. Sorry this didn’t help. While even the one-time payment licenses, like , are run in the Click-to- not -run environment, that does not mean their license has to be validated every 30 days I hope.
The problem is, it is hard to prove, without a “real-world” test. I have read, in the past, that MS has touted the One-time payment licenses as the answer to running Office Offline. Who knows what dis ” improvements” they have made since then, so you may be right.
But I doubt it. Actually, if someone wants “absolute” proof, that can only be done by installing, activating and waiting the requisite “disconnected” 30 days. I asked for and rec’d a definitive answer which came back as “all click-to-run versions require validation once every 30 days – whether subscription or retail”. Thanks Diane, that is an unfortunate change in license terms. I have not see that notice. So, MS has abandoned offline users. That is very discouraging news.
Re: Offline users: Yes as far as goes. Am guessing that this is a precursor to Office to becoming available strictly as a subscription. Re: Can’t provide any link. I couldn’t find one which is why I asked for specific clarification back in July of this year.
You might want to pose the question to your MVP NDA list – maybe there is some new page that indicates the activation requirement for one-time retail licenses. Re: Phone activation – no idea to be honest and wasn’t part of my query to MS regarding the 30 day requirement.
Mind you, have seen multiple threads asking about pure “offline” use and no one who replied ever indicated that “phone activation” was an option. Is there anyone out there with Office Home and Student who can do a test for me. The questions I would like you to test are: Can you download an Offline installer specifically for Office Home and Student or Home and Business, or Professional?
If yes, what file format is it? How large is the File size? This thread is locked. You can follow the question or vote as helpful, but you cannot reply to this thread. Thanks for your feedback, it helps us improve the site. I do know that , even yearly subscriptions have the license validated every 30 days. There is an offline installer available from the install link – choose Other options, but you need internet access to activate it.
Microsoft has said you will need to confirm the license every 30 days, which is a change from previous versions of the retail versions. The offline installer is. You can install without being connected but will need to activate it online. In reply to Rohn’s post on September 9, Do you have a link to that article? I’ve tried googling for it, but could not find anything. Karl, thanks for the bad news. So MS has abandoned offline users. Can you point me to a public link with this bad news?
Does this mean that MS has disabled phone activation for Office ? I don’t know if it is published – I heard it from office support. I have a perpetual license, but don’t have a computer that is always offline to verify.
I should try it in a VM. You heard it from MS support. Sorry, that is probably the least reliable source I know of. That is why I’m hoping to find a trustworthy MS source, a published web page, to confirm this bad news. This site in other languages x.
